Mumbai's popular event, Tata Mumbai Marathon 2020, was held successfully on Sunday, January 19, 2020. More than 55,000 participated in the run. The Aarey activist also participated in the marathon. Many of them were seen holding placards at Marine Drive. The objective of this exercise as per them was to create awareness about Aarey.

Harshad Tambe said that the entire ecosystem of Aarey forest is watching with bated breath and so are the citizens of India. He further said that they want to remind the authorities that they won’t back down unless and until their beloved, pristine forest is out of danger.

Talking about the same, Aarey activist Radhika Jhaveri said,

The Save Aarey team was assured that the forest would be protected. The very first act of the Shiv Sena government once it comes to power should have been to declare Aarey as a forest. However, this has not happened. The stop-work order given to MMRCL is not being followed. Construction is still going on inside Aarey and it doesn't seem like any action has been taken against MMRCL by the government. As citizens, we continue to be very wary of Shiv Sena's promise.

According to the activists, the reason for Aarey supporters to be at the Mumbai Marathon was to remind the new government of its promise.

Notably, several Aarey activists had participated in Shiv Sena chief and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's oath-taking ceremony at Shivaji Park on November 28 to remind him about his promise for Aarey. Uddhav Thackeray and Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray had relentlessly opposed the felling of trees at Aarey Colony for the construction of Metro 3 (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz) car-shed. NCP MP Supriya Sule and Congress too were against axing of trees in the area. The acitivist have high hopes from this coalition regarding conversation of Aarey.
