Thane district administration orders ban on gathering at lakes, waterfalls; Read the detailed guidelines

As per order, assemblies are not allowed at Siddhaghad hills, Sonale Ganpati, Harishchandragad, Barvi dam, Padale dam and Malshej Ghat in Murbad, and Kamba, Khadavali, Titwala river, Ganeshghat in Kalyan taluka, and Nadi Naka and Ganeshpuri river side.

The Thane district administration has banned gatherings near waterfalls, lakes and dams in light of the onset of monsoon in the region, an official said on Tuesday, June 8.

District collector Rajesh Narvekar issued a restraining order to effect to prevent accidents at water bodies in the region, the official said.

He also said that the order lists out some of the dangerous spots in the district and people have been asked not to venture out into these places during the monsoon.

The order has been issued under section 144 of the CrPC, Epidemic Act and Disaster Management Act.

People have been banned from gathering at water bodies in Yeoor, Kalwa, Mumbra, Retibunder, Gaimukh and Uttan seashore in Thane taluka, the official said.

As per the order, assemblies are not allowed at Siddhaghad hills, Sonale Ganpati, Harishchandragad, Barvi dam, Padale dam and Malshej Ghat in Murbad, and Kamba, Khadavali, Titwala river, Ganeshghat in Kalyan taluka, and Nadi Naka and Ganeshpuri riverside in Bhiwandi.

In a related development, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has set up a ward committee for monsoon-related accidents.

Thane Zilla Parishad's CEO Dr Bhausaheb Dangde has ordered all taluka-level officials in the district to be alert in the event of heavy rains, which are expected in the next few days.

List of things banned as per the Collector's order:

1) Taking selfies and filming in any form is prohibited. Going into fast-flowing water in rain, getting into deep water and swimming, going to a waterfall or sitting near stream water and places that are dangerous during monsoon, waterfalls, ravines, dangerous turns etc., are also restricted.

2) It will be prohibited to enter these places under the influence of alcohol. Moreover, carrying and drinking alcohol in the open will also not be allowed.

3) It will be subject to legal action to stop vehicles on the roads as well as in dangerous places, to recklessly drive and overtake other vehicles in extreme danger zone.

4) Throwing food, garbage, glass and plastic bottles and thermocol and plastic materials in the open and elsewhere. Harassing women in public or any such behaviour will be prosecuted.

5) Playing loud music in public places, playing DJ system, playing speakers / uppers in the car and thus causing noise pollution. Any action that would cause noise, air and water pollution.

All two-wheelers, four-wheelers and six-wheelers are prohibited from entering within 1 km of the falls (excluding essential service vehicles).

6) Thane District Collector Rajesh Narvekar has informed that the following restraining orders will be applicable from June 8, 2021 till further orders in the area of 1 km around the mentioned waterfalls, lakes or dams.
