Alongside, Bandra Reclamation Area Volunteers Organisation (BRAVO) has been driving many housing societies, educational institutions and hospital in the area to treat the waste generated by them at the source.
In order to achieve their goal of ‘zero waste’, residents of Bandra Reclamation will get a shredder on Friday. The residents launched their mobile shredder for green waste such as tree trimmings, wet waste which is currently being sent to the landfill.
As per a report in TOI, the residents will receive the shredder through a CSR fund of Bajaj Electricals Limited. The initiative conceptualised by Bandra Reclamation Area Volunteers Organisation (BRAVO) will be implemented with the joint efforts of Stree Mukti Sanghatana.
The report further stated that majority of the buildings in the area compost their wet waste and segregate the dry waste and send it for recycling. However, the green waste like leaves, branches, coconut husk and twigs lying around the area along the wet waste. Now, the residents are aiming to receive a vehicle from BMC to move the shredder around. Alongside, Deepika D’Souza, the project coordinator stated that several old buildings in the area do not have space for a compost pit due to which they are now also discussing to develop a common facility for these buildings.
