On Wednesday, October 14, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a statement saying that there is no proposal to widen the Aarey Milk Colony stretch.

On Wednesday, in the statement, it said that they had planned to work on improving the existing road. There is no such proposal to widen the existing asphalt road.

The civic administration assured that care will be taken to protect the trees which already exist and also in protecting the adjoining Aarey forestry. They would take necessary mitigation measures and will take care of the same as per the Cheif Conservator of Forests' direction, read the statement further.

Earlier it was reported that the civic body was planning to upgrade the main road cutting through the Aarey colony. This upset and few environmentalists and raised objections about the same.

Environmentalist Zoru Bathena had expressed shock and said that the civic body cannot use the Aarey forest roads as a means to cut the traffic short. He further stated that the administration must realize that their plans for Aarey should be for decreasing the anthropogenic footprint and never about increasing it.
