Mumbai, which is the financial capital of India, flushes 655 million litres of untreated sewage into the sea every day. According to reports, last year, the National Green Tribunal fined BMC INR 34 crore for this. The city’s landfills are overflowing but new dumping grounds are yet to be found.
As the pollution in the city has been increasing, many people and organisations are making efforts to increase the green cover in Mumbai, especially during the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, in the last week, the Mumbai division of Central Railway introduced a concept of Herbal Garden at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.
This garden is situated near the Heritage Gully in a vast area at the entrance to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, platform no 18. As reported earlier, the garden currently has a collection of approximately 120 different species of herbal plants and shrubs, the garden is definitely one of its kind. The herbal plants include Ashwagandha and herbs like Adusa, Ajwain, Apamarg, Elachi, Pepper, Shatavari, Tulsi etc which can be used as an effective remedy for various ailments.
