Two low-intensity earthquakes experienced in Palghar

As per reports, the number of earthquakes in Palghar district has increased in the recent past and tremours have become frequent since November 2018.

While the cases of Coronavirus continue to be a worry for Maharashtra, the district of Palghar also experienced earthquake tremors on Saturday, As per officials two low-intensity earthquakes had rocked this district on the eve of Teacher's Day.

The number of earthquakes in the district has increased in the recent past. As per the data, the tremours have become frequent in Palghar district since November 2018.  However, most of them are low-intensity earthquakes. Last night's earthquake was an exception as it measured 4.0 on the Richter scale. It was the second-highest measuring earthquake for the district in the last couple of years.  

The largest earthquake witnessed in the district was in Dahanu on February 1, 2019, and the magnitude was 4.1.

An earthquake with a magnitude 4.0 earthquake was felt in Palghar at 11.41 pm on Friday while the second one of 3.6 magnitude was recorded at 12.05 am in Talasari tehsil. 

So far there have been no reports of damage to any property or loss of life due to the recent earthquakes. 

Palghar district disaster control cell Vivekanand Kadam commenting to media shared that the tehsildars of Dahanu and Talasari have been instructed to carry out a survey to keep a close eye on the developments and keep a check on the after-effects.
