According to a report by the news agency ANI, droves of fish were found floating dead in Mumbai’s Malabar Hills area at the Banganga pond. The account adds that for the past three days, they have been seeing these dead fishes floating in the pond.

Locals have been quoted in the narrative elaborating on how they have been throwing these dead fishes out of the pond since the phenomenon.

Many reports attribute this calamity to water pollution. In accordance with certain accounts, this incident transpiring in April is peculiar considering there aren’t any festivities.

Usually, the prominent cause of these dead fishes is a religious ritual that is performed at the pond.

In accordance with a narrative by the FPJ, the contractor cleaning the tank on the site, mentioned that four trucks of fish were removed from the spot and that the cleaning process was underway.

Environment enthusiasts in the narrative remarked that the death of fish in the pond is a yearly incident in September because of festivals, but their death during this time of the year was astonishing.

Certain environmentalists believe that leakage, rising temperature and construction work could be causing the fish to die, cited the report.

It has been reported that as part of the religious ritual, food is put in the water by people as a symbolic ritual for their ancestors. This, the account claims is causing the fish to die.
