Mumbai today woke up to rain lashing heavily several parts of the city. However, it is pertinent to note that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains for the next 24 hours in the city and suburbs with the possibility of very heavy rainfall at isolated places.

Additionally, the weather department has issued an orange alert for the next three days in Mumbai that is till July 14.

For the last 24 hours, rains recorded at Santacruz 62mm, Colaba 33, Bandra 100, Mulund 99, Andheri 72, Dahisar 81, Worli 88, Thane 120. Mumbai and surrounding areas will continue to get heavy to very heavy rains of over 150mm next 36 hours. Moreover, northern suburbs and Palghar will get even heavier rains.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in its alert stated: “Moderate to heavy rain in city & suburbs. Possibility of very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Occasional gusty winds reaching 40-50 km/h very likely.”

“Moderate to intense spells of rain very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ghat areas of Pune and Satara, Nanded, Hingoli, Parbhani, Latur during the next 3-4 hours,” IMD Mumbai informed on Tuesday.

Rainfall remained widespread over coastal belt of Konkan and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places on Monday, July 11, and Tuesday morning, July 12. Marathwada also received widespread moderate rainfall yesterday.

According to an official statement released by the IMD, intense rainfall activity over Konkan and adjoining ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra is expected to continue till 14th July with gradual reduction thereafter. Widespread rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and isolated extremely heavy rainfall is expected over the region during the above period. Parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha is also very likely to receive widespread rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places.

IMD’s Santacruz observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 23.9 degrees Celsius and maximum temperature of 29.4 degrees Celsius. Whereas, a minimum temperature of 24.4 degrees Celsius and maximum temperature of 29.2 degrees Celsius was witnessed at Colaba observatory.
