Mumbai and its suburbs have been receiving heavy rain showers since the past two days. Today, rain showers have slowed down and rested for some time after torrential rains over the city in the morning. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that in the next 24 to 48 hours, moderate to heavy rains are expected over the coastal areas of Maharashtra including Mumbai and its suburbs.

K.S Hosalikar, the Deputy Director-General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) took to Twitter to share some information on the rain activities in Maharashtra. He said that heavy to very heavy rain activities are expected over the areas of Mumbai, Konkan, North Maharashtra and Marathwada in the next 24 to 48 hours.

The IMD has also asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to remain vigilant during this period. Due to the continuous heavy rain activities in Mumbai, all the low-lying areas have started to slowly overflow. While Mumbai and its suburbs have a high possibility of flash floods, waterlogging and traffic jam issues, these rain showers are likely to bring some relief for the farmers and agriculturists in other parts of Maharashtra.

According to the Observatories of Colaba and Santacruz, Mumbai and its suburbs have reported 1,474 mm of total rainfall in the month of July, breaking the all-time highest record of rainfall recorded in the city.
