Almost 88 different species of animals, birds and reptiles were rescued from various parts of Mumbai and its adjoining areas in three days.

While the incessant rainfall in Mumbai over the last week impacted the normal lives of people, it also affected wildlife. According to a report by news agency PTI, more than 80 displaced animals and birds were rescued from various parts of Mumbai in the past few days. 

Based on the account, almost 88 different species of animals, birds and reptiles were rescued from various parts of Mumbai and its adjoining areas in three days, a forest official remarked. 

A forest official was quoted in the narrative elaborating on how the majority of the animals were rescued from the suburban areas of Mumbai that share areas with forests. The official believed that a considerable number of them were impacted because of the heavy spells of rain. 

The official added that two wildlife ambulances, six rescue staff and 20 volunteers from the NGO Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) rescued the wildlife.

Further, he brought to light that a critically injured golden jackal was rescued from Vikhroli who was extremely dehydrated and had many wounds and fractures. 

The official elucidated that two bonnet macaques were rescued from Mulund and Thane. They were believed to have come in contact with live wires and one succumbed. On the other hand, a sub-adult mongoose found in Bhandup was displaced because of heavy rains and is under observation.

Moreover, nearly seven turtles were found in various parts of Mumbai because many water bodies were flooding owing to rains. Due to this, they were lost in flood water near drains and were rescued from residential complexes, the official articulated.

Nearly, 30 birds entailed black kites, parakeets, mynas, crows and pigeons were impacted by rainfall and strong winds. While they were being treated, over 35 snakes of various species were rescued from commercial and residential areas. After medical examinations, they were released into the wild. 

In addition to this, the official informed that the distressed and displaced species were rescued, treated and rehabilitated in coordination with the forest department. 

The official urged citizens to be watchful and assist such animals by getting in touch with rescue teams, NGOs and the forest department.
