The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall in isolated areas over the next three hours as intense monsoon activity continues across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Heavyy rain has lashed Mumbai for the past four days, with overnight showers causing waterlogging in several low-lying areas and disrupting traffic during the morning commute. The western suburbs, including Andheri, Kandivali, Goregaon, Borivali and Dahisar, witnessed particularly heavy rainfall, while flooding was also reported in parts of Dadar, Mulund and the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city recorded an average rainfall of 114 mm between 8 a.m. on Thursday and 7 a.m. on Friday. The eastern suburbs received 102 mm of rain, while the western suburbs recorded an average of 109 mm during the same period.
Rainfall was highest at Malabar Hill (146 mm), followed by Fort (139 mm), Andheri (136 mm), Versova (129 mm), Powai (124 mm), Mankhurd (118 mm), Bhandup (116 mm) and Mulund (115 mm).
The IMD has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue across Mumbai and the North Konkan region through the weekend. Mumbai and Palghar remain under an Orange Alert, while Thane is expected to be placed under a Red Alert on Saturday due to the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall. Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
