Mumbai Weather Update: Rain lashes parts of Mumbai, Thane; brings maximum temperature down

According to IMD GFS model, maximum temperature is likely to drop to 24 or below on December 14 in North Maharashtra and some parts of North Marathwada. However, it is expected to slightly grow in Mumbai today.

December rains in Mumbai are not much of a routine. However, 2020 seems to be an exception. On Monday, December 14, Mumbaikars continue to receive rain. This is the fourth day in a row when it is pouring in the city and the neighbouring area. This has resulted in a dip in temperatures with smog shrouding parts of the city leading to decreased visibility.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rain has lashed in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara and Sangli districts since Monday morning.

However, the department has forecasts a cloudy weather in most parts of the state for another one to two days.

According to IMD, next three to four hours are crucial and needs vigilance. The latest radar image indicates cloud patch over entire Raigad, Mumbai, parts of Thane and Palghar, Nashik. It is expected that the rain would continue in these areas along with those ghat areas of Pune. Presently, the intensity of rainfall is heavy at Colaba, Panvel and Alibaug.

IMD Regional Meteorological Center head, KS Hosalikar said, "Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai received light rains in the last six hours at most places as seen from rainfall monitoring networks with yellow and green spots. The cloudy sky over Mumbai and adjoining areas are expected to open up in the later part of the day.”

Whereas, in the last 3-4 hours, Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Palghar Raigad received moderate rains.

The low-pressure belt formed in the Arabian Sea has been hiding for the past few days. For the last four to five days, cloudy weather has prevailed in Mumbai city-suburbs and surrounding cities. Although the maximum temperature during the day has dropped due to cloudy weather, the minimum temperature at night is still above average.
