Monsoon has been causing a lot of mayhem in India in the past few days. As many as five districts in Maharashtra have been battered by the rains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued an orange alert indicating a heavy-to-very heavy rain alert at isolated places in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts on July 30-31. Furthermore, a similar warning has been issued for Pune, Kolhapur and Satara districts. In the last week, these places have been in the news as several landslides have been reported from here.

However, now IMD has revised the alert and changed it to yellow. As per this update, it is expected that heavy rainfall will take place in isolated places, in Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra region till the end of this week. This will come as a huge relief for the people in the area that have been dealing with incessant rains.

IMD's latest bulletin states, “Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls are very likely over Konkan and Goa, ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra from July 28 to August 1”.

More than 200 people have lost their lives in the recent floods and eight people are still missing.

In regards to Mumbai, IMD has predicted that the island city will receive moderate rain with occasional intense spells. There is a yellow alert for Mumbai and nearby areas of Thane and Palghar. It is also indicated that there is a possibility of occasional gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph to 60 kmph.
