According to the latest reports, the Maharashtra government is looking to revamp the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) for which it has asked the state forest department to curate a comprehensive project report (DPR).
It has been reported that state chief minister Uddhav Thackeray wants SGNP to become a prominent attraction for foreign tourists. In light of this, based on accounts, he has given in-principle approval for the makeover plan on Monday, April 11.
In addition to this, the Maharashtra government wants to include new attractions that include the likes of wildlife safari, amphitheatre, nature interpretation centre, tribal museum, virtual zoo and eco-infotainment facilities. Apart from this, a presentation by the forest department before Thackeray also highlighted new entrance plazas, viewing decks, redevelopment of a mini train station, up-gradation of a children's park, staying facilities, and boating facility and a new library, remarked narratives.
Based on narratives, to ensure that the park does not reel under the ramifications of pollution, Thackeray has asked the state to bring in electric vehicles for travelling inside the park. Now, the forest department will appoint a consultant to prepare the DPR.
If accounts are to be believed this makeover project will have an estimated cost of INR 400 crore. To lure tourists, Thackeray reportedly also recommended bringing in rare animals that include the likes of black leopards, white lions, birds, tiger and leopard safari and a museum of different species of snakes.
