In a collective effort to reinforce their dedication to environmental preservation and responsible waste management practices, Mumbai Waste Management Limited (MWML), A Re Sustainability company, aligns with Government of Maharashtra’s 'Mission 30 days' against narcotics to safeguard the disposal of seized drugs worth approx INR 5000 Crore at their Common Hazardous Waste Treatment Storage & Disposal Facility (CHWTSDF) in Taloja.

With the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) granted by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), MWML is authorised to dispose of 2442 Kg of drugs at their facility. This disposal process strictly adheres to the Hazardous & Other Wastes (M&TM) Rules, 2016.

Drugs bear not only a human cost but also pose an ecological burden. Improper disposal or release of these substances into the environment can lead to contamination of water sources, soil, and ecosystems, potentially harming wildlife and plant life.

The drug incineration undertaking, attended by Lakhmi Gautam, Joint Commissioner of Police , Crime, Mumbai, Dilip Patil Bhujbal, Spl. Inspector General of Police, CID, Pune, Pankaj Deshmukh, Superintendent of police, EOW, CID, Pune and Prakash Jadhav, DCP, Anti Narcotic Cell, Mumbai, signifies the paramount importance of this initiative, marking it as a crucial step towards a drug-free, cleaner and safer Mumbai.

MWML, under the supervision of the competent authority and in strict compliance with legal procedures, took complete responsibility for the proper handling and disposal of the seized material at the CHWTSDF facility. Every necessary precaution was taken at the CHW TSDF (Commom Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility) to ensure meticulous handling and disposal of the hazardous waste.

Last financial year, Re Sustainability safely managed over 1.2 Million Tons of hazardous substances and wastes through various methods such as multi-stage incineration, physico-chemical stabilisation, encapsulation, secured landfilling and recovery of alternative fuels and raw materials.
