The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a possibility of cold wave across Maharashtra from January 29 till February 2. Owing to this, a significant fall in temperature will be recorded from January 30 in the state.

According to the weather department, a cold wave-like situation (threshold 10 degrees) will be observed in Pune, central Maharashtra, while in Mumbai the minimum temperature may dip below average.

For the last few weeks, the city has been witnessing temperature 4-5 degrees below its average. However, it seems like Mumbai is returning to normalcy as Mumbai on Friday, January 27, saw a slight spike in the daytime minimum temperature at 18.9 and 18.6 degrees Celsius at IMD’s Santacruz and Colaba observatory respectively. In addition, the night time maximum temperature was recorded at 34.4 and 31 degrees Celsius.

The weather officials stated that a western disturbance is located over Afghanistan and moving eastward. Under its influence, an induced cyclonic circulation is over Southwest Rajasthan.

With a possibility of cloudy weather in the days ahead, there will be a marginal rise in the minimum temperature, but the daytime temperature may fall partially.
