Metro 3 car shed to be moved to Goregaon or Kanjurmarg

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, on September 2, announced that the government has decided to reserve 600 acres of Aarey land near Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) as a reserve-forest. This was done in a meeting held with Aaditya ThackeraySanjay RathodEknath Shinde, and other ministers from the cabinet.

The biggest question that people have been wondering post this landmark decision was where will the authorities shift the car shed for Metro 3. In October 2019, there were widespread protests in Aarey when 2,141 trees in the Aarey area were cut to construct the Metro Car shed. Now that the part of Aarey has been declared a forest, people are wondering what would happen to the proposed car shed. 

As per a report in The Times of India, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) have been given the task of preparing the detailed project report for the new site.

Currently, the government has is evaluating two locations - Kanjurmarg and Pahadi-Goregaon. Metro 3 car shed site and if things progress in the manner that they are going then the new site may be zeroed in within the next six months.

While people wait to know the new location of the Metro 3 car shed, it is clear that the Uddhav Thackeray led government is keen to move the location from Aarey. It is also to be seen with the new car shed and the coronavirus outbreak, what would be the new competition date for Metro 3 project.
