On Saturday, October 3, parts of the city experienced loud thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds amidst moderate rainfall for a few hours in the evening.

The cloud formations were witnessed in parts of Kalyan which moved over towards the city and continued for a couple of hours. As per reports, the withdrawal of monsoon in the state could be pushed to the third week of October. Moreover, the downpour forced an IndiGo flight to divert to Ahmedabad as well, as per sources.

According to the meteorological body, the seasonal rainfall in the state has been normal. Maharashtra has recorded 16 per cent excess rain this year, with Marathwada recording surplus rain throughout the season. Even though 19 per cent and +19 per cent rainfall of the long period average is termed normal, Marathwada has clocked 30 per cent more downpour than the seasonal average at 866.1 mm rain. However, three districts in Vidarbha, namely, Amravati (-20), Akola (-27) and Yavatmal (-24) – recorded deficient rainfall.

Earlier in the month, Mumbai experienced continual downpour across the city. This resulted in a massive amount of waterlogging which was reported at the Sion station on the Central Railway line. Moreover, many roads in Hindmata, Lalbaug, Andheri, Malad, Borivali, Kurla, Matunga had been submerged.
