In accordance with a weather forecast by the Regional Meteorological Department, in Mumbai over the next three days, the city is likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning.

The forecast predicts that from Thursday, June 9 to Saturday, June 11 there is a "very likely" possibility of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at isolated places in Mumbai.

By Sunday, June 12 and Monday, June 13 there are "very likely" chances of light rain or thundershowers.

Certain narratives claimed that the rain would move from south Mumbai and progressively head towards the north. Owing to this phenomenon, nearby areas such as Bhayander, Vasai and Virar could receive short but intense spells of thunder and lightning till the night.

With cloudy skies seen on Thursday evening, several users took to Twitter to share glimpses of the much-awaited Mumbai rains.

Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted that this year the onset of monsoon in Mumbai could be by June 11. However, it is estimated to intensify over the city and its adjoining areas after June 15.

In the midst of no rains or only light showers during the first 10 days of June, the current water stock in the seven lakes of the city will last for 55 days, stated BMC officials.
