Mumbai clocks lowest minimum temperature at 16 degrees Celsius

The island city feels the chills as the minimum temperature in Mumbai dropped to 16 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, December 22.

On Tuesday, December 22, the minimum temperature in Mumbai dropped to 16 degrees Celsius, the lowest this season so far.

Moreover, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the minimum temperatures will remain between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius the next two days. As per reports, Santacruz’ minimum temperature was 2 degrees Celsius below normal than yesterday’s temperature whereas Colaba recorded a minimum temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, only 0.4 degrees normal.

Before Tuesday, the minimum temperature was clocked on December 7 at 17.4 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, the lowest minimum temperature in December 2019 was 16.4 degrees Celsius and it was 14.4 degrees Celsius a year before.

Moreover, the drop in the temperature has also affected the air quality in Mumbai. According to the System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the air quality index (AQI) for all pollutants on Tuesday was 183 (moderate) with PM2.5 levels in the moderate category at 85 microgrammes per cubic metre (µg/m3) against the safe limit of 60 µg/m3, and AQI for PM10 at 139 (moderate). Apart from Mumbai and its neighbouring areas, the chill was also felt in parts of central Maharashtra and Vidarbha.

On the other hand, on December 13, the IMD recorded the third lowest maximum temperature since 2010. As per reports, the maximum temperature was 27.6 degrees Celsius, down from 28.8 degrees Celsius from the previous day. Moreover, before Sunday, the lowest temperature was recorded on December 6, 2017, at 23.3 degrees Celsius. In addition, back in 2010, the lowest maximum temperature was 26.5 degrees Celsius.
