The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for August 4 and August 5 for extremely heavy rain in Mumbai.
While the city has been experiencing incessant downpour since last night, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an alert to all concerned departments and also to the citizens to not go near any beach or low lying areas as the shores of the island city are expected to get hit by high tides at around 12:47 pm. It further took to Twitter to inform of the same.

According to the civic body, Mumbai received 140.5 mm rain from 8 am on August 3 to August 4. The Eastern and Western Suburbs recorded 84.77 mm and 79.27 mm of rainfall respectively.
Meanwhile, the BMC alerted the people that the BEST bus services diverted on at least 8 routes in several parts of Mumbai city and suburbs. The areas where the buses have been diverted are as follows.
Meanwhile, due to waterlogging, the vehicular movement has been paused on roads like Hindmata Flyover, Andheri Subway, Malad Subway, Milan Subway, King Circle, Shindewadi and Dadar TT, as per Mumbai Police.
Moreover, as a result of the waterlogging at Wadala and Parel, suburban services have been suspended on the mainline and harbour line. Shuttle services are running between Vashi and Panvel, Thane and Kalyan. No suburban trains are being held up in stations.
The Western Railways has also alerted the people that all the Western Railway routes are to only run between Virar-Andheri-Bandra due to Dadar and Prabhadevi being submerged in water. Routes from Bandra-Churchgate stand suspended as a result of the downpour.
