A new underground corridor near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) is being built. Once complete, it will connect the upcoming Metro Line 3 station to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) subway. The construction work is progressing quickly. Officials say the link will soon be ready for use.

The new subway connects the current CSMT railway station to the Mumbai Metro station being built across the street from the BMC headquarters at Azad Maidan. One of the exits of the new Metro station will lead directly into this subway. This will allow passengers to walk underground between the train and Metro stations.

Work is ongoing for the final launch of Metro Line 3. The line is expected to start full operations by December 2025. The CSMT Metro station is now visible as the last stage of construction begins.

Metro Aqua Line 3 will stretch from Colaba to SEEPZ. It will cover a total of 33.5 kilometres. The route will have 27 stations. Of these, 26 will be underground. Some sections are already in use. These include parts between Acharya Atre Chowk, Worli, and Aarey-JVLR.

The line will carry about 1.7 million passengers daily. It will connect to eight railway stations. It will also link with the MSRTC bus depot, Metro Yellow Line 2B, and Metro Blue Line 1.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is funding the project. The total revised cost is INR 37,276 crore. This includes a loan of INR 21,280 crore from JICA. The Union Cabinet approved the updated cost in February this year.
