The MET department has predicted that southwest monsoons will hit Mumbai by June 15-20. IMD Mumbai added that the sky will be clear over the next two days. The Head of Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre, Rajendra Kumar Jenamani said - “Southwest monsoon is expected to arrive over Kerala coast between June 1 and 5, and is likely to reach Mumbai between June 15 and 20, 2020."

Speaking about the rising temperatures across the country, Jenamani said, "India has seen the highest temperature of this year 47.6 in the last two days. The heatwave will start subsiding from May 28 as easterly winds will start blowing in northern parts of the country,” while predicting that temperatures will go down to 40 degrees Celsius over the coming days.

A few days ago, it was predicted that Mumbai may experience some rain on the 1st of June, indicating that the heatwave will continue until the end of the month. While the Met department’s mid-June estimates are fairly realistic, the city would thoroughly enjoy a respite from the heat much sooner.

The BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) has commenced pre-monsoon works across most quarters in preparation for a June monsoon. However, it’s still unclear whether the authorities have finished pre-monsoon works. With barely a few weeks left for the monsoons to arrive on Mumbai’s shores, the citizens will not want a repeat of 2019 which saw the city’s worst flood in a decade.
