India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) both monitoring stations at Santacruz and Colaba today, March 15, recorded significantly above normal temperatures at 39.6 degrees Celsius and 39.4 degrees Celsius respectively. With this, the maximum temperature went seven degrees above normal.

On the other hand, according to the 48 hours forecast, the maximum temperature is likely to increase to 40 degrees.

For the fourth consecutive day, Mumbai recorded above normal maximum temperature on Tuesday, March 15.

It is pertinent to note that this development came just days after the IMD warned of heat waves in Mumbai, Thane and several other districts of Maharashtra.

Moreover, a yellow alert, indicating heatwave like conditions at isolated pockets in the Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg is issued for Wednesday, March 16.

As per IMD’s seven-day forecast for Mumbai, the maximum temperature will remain at around 39 degrees Celsius till March 16.

However, between March 17 and March 20, daytime temperatures will drop to around 36 degrees Celsius.

The city has already seen multiple heat wave days since the beginning March 3. Though the heat wave intensified from March 12.

As per the weather department, a severe heat wave in a coastal station, like Mumbai, is declared when the daytime maximum temperature is above 37 degrees Celsius and also at a departure of over 6.5 degrees above normal.
