The Bombay High Court (HC) recently appointed a third-party panel, which comprises of experts for tree monitoring as only 36 per cent of transplanted trees from Aarey have survived. The trees were cut for the construction of Metro 3 (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz) car shed from the Aarey site. To discuss this matter further there will be a meeting held for the same in the first week of January which will be headed by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC Chief Praveen Pardeshi as the chief of Tree Authority.

At the panel meeting, the Mumbai Metro Railway Corporation Limited (MMRCL) advocate submitted a chart that stated 1,582 trees were transplanted of which 36 per cent i.e. 572 are alive today while 972 died and 38 have had no sprouts in the gestation period of nine months yet.

According to Aarey activist Zoru Bathena,

How is it possible that an organisation who is building a world class Metro, is unable to care for its trees? There is no lack of expertise in tree care there's only a lack of will to care for the trees.

Stalin Dayanand from Vanashakti further said,

This exercise of MMRCL was doomed from the beginning. It is only due to diligent follow up by citizens that the facts are exposed. MMRCL does not have the inclination or honesty to allot sufficient funds, employ proper technical experts and use appropriate vehicles. They have moved trees by yanking them out using JCBs and dumping them in remote areas which cannot be seen by people. They thought they could get away. Huge penalty must be imposed on MMRCL for their reckless acts.
