The issue of cutting trees in Mumbai Aarey Colony has gained prime importance over many weeks now. While Mumbaikars were waiting for the decision by the Supreme Court, the bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Deepak Gupta, on Monday, decided to extend its interim stay.

It was said that the decision to be taken regarding the felling of trees will continue till the next hearing on the matter in January. Earlier last month, new CM of Maharashtra and Shiv Sena Chief, Uddhav Thackeray has formed a committee to find a different site for construction of metro shed. However, the bench replied that their decision is not based on such aspects.

The Supreme Court, on October 21, had asked the authorities to maintain the status quo regarding the issue, and also demanded the pictures of afforestation and transplantation. Keeping this in mind, Mumbai Metro claimed that the status quo was maintained, after the cutting of trees, the team had transplanted more than 5000 trees and had taken necessary actions respecting the interim order.
