In the first week of the new year, Mumbaikars have witnessed unseasonal rainfall again. Mumbai city and adjacent areas including Thane witnessed light drizzle and showers on Monday morning, January 4. Besides, light showers were observed on the Eastern Express Highway.

KS Hosalikar, Head, Regional Meteorological Center said, "January month in Mumbai has records of the lowest minimum temperatures (Below 15 Degree Celsius). For the next 3, 4 days, as per the IMD guidance, there is the possibility of lowering temperatures in the city. But it won't be severe."

The steamy winds coming from the west are responsible for the rain in many places across the country. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), rains are expected to lash Mumbai and its neighbouring areas on January 6 and 7. Light rainfall is possible in Konkan, Goa and Central Maharashtra.

On Sunday at 11:30 pm, a partly cloudy sky was reported over Mumbai and parts of interior North Maharashtra. Hosalikar also tweeted that very light rains (trace) were reported by the Mumbai-Santacruz weather observatory just.

The temperature will drop further in the next 48 hours. It is estimated that the temperature could drop as low as 18 degrees Celsius, as predicted by IMD.

Several social media users also took to Twitter to share photos and videos of the rains.

The meteorological department has forecast cloudy weather in some parts of the state and dry weather in Vidarbha. Currently, the temperature in Mumbai is 19 to 21 degrees Celsius. It is expected to drop further by two to three degrees in the coming weeks.

In northern Maharashtra, heavy rains lashed parts of the state on Saturday, January 2 and Sunday night, January 3. Farmers in Maharashtra are now worried that the changing climate will damage their crops.
