To lower the carbon footprint of cities in Maharashtra, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has come up with a project which aims at decreasing the carbon footprint. The project will lower the carbon footprint in 43 Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) cities. They will audit their carbon footprint inventory.

A tender has been floated by the MPCB, who is looking to appoint an agency that will audit the inventory of the 43 cities' Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. It is a part of the 'race to zero' campaign by the United Nations (UN) climate change campaign.

An official from MPCB said the first step is to take inventory of the carbon emission for achieving carbon neutrality. After the inventory helps in finding the different sources of carbon emission, an action plan will be made to reduce carbon footprint in the cities.

The Stationery Energy Combustion, Transportation, Waste Management, etc., are the different sectors in which the activities will be categorized.

An official said that it will be completed in six months once an agency is hired for the project. Meanwhile, the pilot project will be completed in three months, which will consist of detailed reports of five to six cities.
