The Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior III reached Mumbai on Thursday to spread awareness about climate change. The ship will be anchored at Indira Dock in South Mumbai for three days where various programmes will be conducted to highlight the importance of sustainable agriculture, solar energy, clean air and waste management. 


This ship is third of the Rainbow Warrior series which was made in 2011 after the two earlier ships were retired. It has been a regular initiative of Greenpeace since 1978.

Without public awareness, their participation, garnering the support to global climate change would be impossible,” Rahul Prasad, communication campaigner of Greenpeace India.

Captain Hettie Greenan will be commanding the vessel said that they will The Rainbow Warrior III is a campaigning ship and will be sailing for three months to various parts of the world with the objective of developing campaigns to save the environment.
After Mumbai, the ship will sail to Kochi spreading its message.

History of Rainbow Warrior Ship

- The Rainbow Warrior Ship started campaigning for Greenpeace since 1977 and was shot down by two French agents on July 10
- Rainbow Warrior II was bought in 1989 and she got retired on August 16, 2011, after serving for 22 years. Currently, it is serving as a hospital for Bangladesh’s Friendship NGO.
- The Rainbow Warrior III started campaigning from October 14, 2011.
