As soon as the Bombay High Court ruled out that Aarey cannot be declared a forest now and the case should be heard in the Supreme Court, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) authorities started cutting the trees on that day at 9 pm. There was huge chaos and tiff between the authorities and activists on that day as people weren't allowed to enter the area. Finally, a special bench on Supreme Court stated that the cutting of trees should be stopped till the next hearing which will be held on October 21.

However, the damage was already done with numerous trees chopped down in the course of 2 days. In a way to condemn the act and pay tribute to the trees, the tribal (adivasi) community gathered near Aarey colony. They were seen holding candles and placards.
