The city of Mumbai has received heavy rainfall in the first week of August, and a similar pattern was observed in July too. Earlier, reports stated that despite the rain, the lakes around Mumbai witnessed a shortage in water and some parts of the city had to face water scarcity. However, with the city witnessing heavy rainfall in the last week, especially on Wednesday, the water supply has been restored as the level has increased significantly in the nearby lakes.

It is said that all the seven dams supplying water to Mumbai have accumulated 60 per cent water. With the rainfall observed in the last ten to twelve days, about three months of water has accumulated.

As per the concerned department, all the lakes near Mumbai need to be filled to full capacity for smooth water supply throughout the year. However, officials state that as per comparison, the water reserves are much lower than that of the last two years.

Meanwhile, Mumbai is on high alert for the next five days from August 15, 2020. The Pune Observatory has predicted heavy rains in Mumbai and has issued a warning for several areas in Konkan, Goa and Sahyadri ghats. The meteorological department has forecast heavy rains from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.

Skymet issued a forecast on August 15, 2020, which said, "During the last 24 hours, Santacruz recorded 61mm, Colaba 15mm, Dahanu 61mm, and Thane Belapur 81 mm of rain. Matheran and Mahabaleshwar recorded three-digit rainfall of 125 mm and 155 mm respectively. A cyclonic circulation is persisting over Kutch and adjoining South Pakistan. An east-west shear zone is passing via Mumbai along latitude 19 degree north between 5.8 and 7.6 km above mean sea level. In the view of above weather parameters, moderate rains with one or two heavy spells are expected to continue over north Konkan and Goa including Mumbai and suburbs during the next 48 hours. As we have already stated that there will not be any very heavy downpour over Mumbai and suburbs. Therefore, flash floods and severe waterlogging are ruled out which would have caused difficulty in commuting. These on and off rain and thundershower activities are expected to continue until August 21 or 22. The cloud cover and intermittent rain will keep the temperature below normal. The weather of Mumbai and suburbs will remain present for at least the next week."
