According to the latest reports, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert on Monday, July 4. There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated parts of Mumbai and its suburbs.

Moreover, a heavy spell of rain, heavier than that on Monday is anticipated on Tuesday, July 4. On the other hand, the IMD norms indicate that rainfall between  64.5mm and 115.5mm in 24 hours is considered ‘heavy’. Similarly, that between 115.6mm and 204.4mm is ‘very heavy’.

In anticipation of the heavy rains, CM Eknath Shinde has asked officials to be vigilant and keep the NDRF squads ready.

On Tuesday, waterlogging was seen in several areas of the city such as Andheri and Sion.

Based on accounts, the rainy weather is being attributed to a prevailing offshore trough, in proximity to the Konkan Coast. This is believed to have become stronger on July 4 in response to a low-pressure area which has formed over eastern India, over north Odisha and South Jharkhand.

It has been reported that the monsoon's intensity is likely to curtail on July 6 and 7. Later, it is anticipated to rise again between July 8 and 10.

The IMD in its official statement stated that between July 7 and 9, heavy showers will see an increase to quite an extent. Heavy to very heavy rains may be seen during this period with showers peaking on July 8 and 9.
