SHARES

Ladies, when it comes to talking about the most paradigmatic part of dressing up, which is a bra; we feel super shy to talk about it or we seek corners to mumble about it. There is no surprise in the fact that more than 80 percent of women have been wearing the wrong size bra for the longest time. Most of the time, women think that a lump of fat near the hooks or armpits is just because of the fitting of the brand new bra and all they do about it is just adjust and wear it anyway. We've heard a couple of hundred times about these issues and we still ignore them. But all these issues can be resolved by knowing your true size, you can take a test featured by most branded lingerie websites. Once you know your size, you can buy any bra styles you wanted to wear for ages. In this article, we’ll talk about a few signs that can help you identify if you’re wearing the wrong bra size.

Sign 1: Your Breast Spills Over

Yes honey, you aren’t the only one. This is the most common issue, also known as quadraboob effect which means that an ill-fitted bra can give the appearance of 4 breasts instead of 2.

Experts say, ‘A little cleavage never hurts anyone. Whether you agree or not, breast spilling is not a good feeling or sight and isn’t good for your breasts either. This bulge of upper breast tissue can jiggle during exercises or even while walking down the staircase and cause a lot of pain later.

Solution:

Go up a cup size! Bigger cup size is what you need to cover the bulging breasts. You could also opt for full coverage cups instead of demi coverage. This will give the desired look to your outfit and ample support to your breasts. It can be very painful to see an outfit getting ruined because of an ill-fitted bra. So next time you go bra shopping make sure to get your A, B, C, and Ds correct.

Sign 2: Your Back Band Rides Up

This again is an extremely common issue for a lot of women. So how to ensure the back band fits your fine? Easy, standing sideways to your mirror, check your bra band as it goes around your back. It should form a straight line, parallel to the ground. The band should be level all the way around and not be higher than the underside of your breasts forming an arch on the back. Ladies! if your band is loose, then your bra can’t give you proper support and lift. It will keep riding up and make you feel uncomfortable and create awkward situations. Similarly, if it's too tight then it’ll dig into your skin and cause marks, rashes and irritations.

If this is not your issue, then probably all you need to do is adjust your shoulder straps. When you buy a new bra, you should always try to loosen or tighten the straps to see what fits you better. Loose straps lead to that arch formation on the back while tight straps form rashes and marks on the shoulder and back.

Solution:

Luckily, this is a simple and easy fix. Just go down a band size. Remember if you go down a band size you should go up a cup size. For example, a 34C becomes a 32D, which is also called ‘sister sizing’. Also, don’t forget to take the two fingers test. Put two fingers underneath the band, if there is space for more than two fingers, then it clearly means that the band is large for your breast. You should start off with the first or middle hook when you first buy a bra and be able to fit your index and forefinger in the back comfortably. That way, it's not too tight or too loose, and you can tighten the strap as it wears and stretches out over time.

Sign 3: Your Straps Keep Falling Down

Bra experts say that bra slips are due to loose straps. However, it might not always be the case. Loose straps can be a sign that your cup is too big. Tighten your straps to the correct level; your bra strap should be tight enough to fit two fingers between it. If there’s still extra room in your cup then consider going down a cup size. In other cases, this problem occurs due to overstretching or lost elasticity in the fabric.

Solution:

Check and adjust your straps every time you wear your bra. If they continue to become loose after adjusting, then it’s time for a new bra. If you have narrow shoulders you may find the straps slip no matter what you do. If this is the case with you, consider trying a cross-back or racerback bra. These styles will help you anchor the straps to your body and prevent slipping.

Sign 4: Your Straps Are Digging Into Your Shoulders

Ow, there is nothing worse than going on a long run and feeling like your bra straps are digging into the skin and cutting off the circulation. A bra is supposed to be comfortable and allow you to do any work without any hassle.

A common fix that most women do is to tighten the shoulder straps more in the hope that if things bounce around less and their shoulder pain will reduce. But you are totally wrong. Usually, your shoulder straps provide about 20% of the support and the band offers the other 80%. Hence, it is really important to choose the right bra. Too-tight straps can cause severe and myriad problems, and repeated wear can leave permanent marks on your shoulders.

Solution:

A snug-fitting band should be your first priority. Because this helps in taking the strain off your straps and your shoulders. Also, consider strap width. Nowadays you can find many bras online that come with wider & softer straps that help in spreading the breast weight equally across the shoulder.

Sign 5: Gaping And Puckering Cups:

Ladies, if you’ve noticed some gathers on your bra cups or gaps between your breasts and the cups, or if the center of your bra doesn’t lie flat against your chest, this one is especially for you. This often becomes an issue for women who have a certain type of breast shape like; slender, east-west, asymmetrical or teardrop. Typically, these breast shapes feature a heavy bottom and a shallow top making some room at the top which results in a gaping cup situation.

Solution:

Tightening the bra straps can be a quick solution to this problem. If your cups are gapping around the top try to tighten the straps a bit. But don’t stretch them more because this will cause marks and rashes. Even after tightening them, if you still notice a gap then straps aren’t your issue. And try putting your bra on in a different way. After securing your bra, try to lift each breast into each individual cup. Make sure that the tissue fills the whole cup and that the nipples are positioned in the center. But the best solution would be to try spacer cup bras, these are made from air-light padding that fits like a second skin.

How to Try on a Bra Before Buying?

Stand straight and bend forward at the waist, now put on the bra while ensuring that your breasts completely fill in the cups. If your breasts spill or bulge, you are wearing a small bra size. If there's extra space then you’ve picked a bigger size.

Secure the bra on the middle hook. Later if you lose weight or if your bra loses its stretchability over a period of time you can always move to the first hook. Similarly, if you gain weight or if the fabric shrinks for some odd reason you can move to the third hook.

Next comes the band. It is perfect only when the back of the bra is levelled with the front of the bra. If it rides up you’re getting the wrong band size. You should be able to slide 2 fingers.

Check out the straps too. Try loosening and tightening till you find your perfect comfort level.

A proper bra is a basic foundation if you want you and your outfit to look perfect. So make sure to keep an eye on these signs and if you notice any of the above-mentioned signs you know what to do!
