One of Maharashtra’s most adored festivals, Ganesh Chaturthi, gives its devotees the opportunity to offer their gratitude to the Lord. The festivities which brings out everyone’s creative juices, with the unique idols made, food preparations form a prominent part of the celebration as well. Celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi is akin to gorging on the delicious modaks, but, apart from that there are some other foods as well that you cannot miss.

Modak

Ganpati’s most favourite modak, is seen in every household during Ganesh Chaturthi. It comes in many varieties that include the traditional ukdiche modak or the innovative chocolate modak. There are many stories too, that depicts Lord Ganesha’s love for modaks.

Puran Poli

Another festive favourite, it is offered as bhog to Lord Ganesha. Made from either maida or wheat it is stuffed with jaggery and sweet lentils. It acts as the perfect end to your scrumptious meal. Other than during Ganesh Chaturthi, it is also seen during other festivals in Maharashtra.

Churma Laddoo

These deep-fried crunchy ladoos are made from jaggery, wheat and ghee. It sells like hot cakes during Ganesh Chaturthi. You can be rest assured that you won’t be able to stop at just one.

Aluwadi

A savoury dish unique to Maharashtra, alu wadi comprises ingredients like chana dal, ginger, garlic, tamarind and sesame seeds. It’s the ideal appetizer in the meal.

Rishi Bhaji

Usually made on the next day of Ganesh Chaturthi, this authentic dish, includes sweet potato, pumpkin, raw banana and corn which is eaten with chapati.
