Diwali 2021 will be celebrated under the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Maharashtra government, on Wednesday, October 27, has issued guidelines for the Diwali festival. The guidelines are issued to curb the spread of the coronavirus. The government has urged the citizens to avoid bursting crackers. However, they have not banned the use of firecrackers.

On Friday, October 29, the Supreme Court gave a clarification stating that there is no ban on firecrackers, but firecrackers containing Barium salts are prohibited. The court further observed that they could not do the celebration at the cost of others' health.

The bench said that there is no ban on using firecrackers apart from the firecrackers, which are harmful to health and affect people, especially senior citizens and children. If the States, agencies, and UTs implement a ban on firecrackers, they will view them seriously.

Meanwhile, in their guidelines, the state government has mentioned that those who are affected by coronavirus are likely to be troubled directly due to air pollution. Therefore, the government has asked people to avoid bursting crackers and instead light lamps on a big scale and celebrate the festival. They have also asked the citizens not to overcrowd markets for Diwali shopping.

This year Diwali will be celebrated from Tuesday, November 2 to Saturday, November 6.
