The Maharashtra government has issued a set of guidelines on Wednesday, October 27, for the upcoming Diwali festival, which will be celebrated in November first week.

Even as the coronavirus cases has witnessed a drop in the state, the government and civic officials has urged citizens to not let the guard down as the threat of the third wave of COVID-19 is not over yet.

The Home Department has issued various guidelines to ensure that citizens celebrate a safe Diwali. The citizens are urged to celebrate festival at home.

Here are the guidelines:

  • The state government has asked citizens to avoid the use of firecrackers in order to avoid noise and air pollution. It has also asked citizens to celebrate the festival by lighting lamps.
  • During Diwali, the shops and streets are crowded. The government has urged citizens to avoid overcrowding and large gatherings at public places. Moreover, senior citizens and children should avoid leaving the house.
  • Citizens should avoid bursting firecrackers this year and instead celebrate by lighting lamps as increasing the level of air and noise pollution adversely affects the health of people and animals after Diwali.
  • The state government has also asked the citizens to wear facial masks and observe social distancing during the festival.
  • Meanwhile, the decision to impose restrictions will be taken by the local administration.
