On Tuesday, the state health minister, Rajesh Tope stated that the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t receded in the state yet, but added that conditions aren’t favourable to promptly result in a third wave, reported the PTI. During his conversation with reports in Maharashtra’s Nashik, he stated that the COVID-19 task force has warned of the third wave after the Diwali festivities.

The report quoted him saying that the second wave isn’t over yet, but presently there aren’t any conditions favourable for a third wave, however, the task force has warned of a third wave after Diwali, thus, the condition is being studied.

Tope added that more than nine crore people have been inoculated against the coronavirus with at least the first jab in the state with 35% having taken both the jabs. He also stated no new variant of the coronavirus has been found yet and that a special drive to vaccinate those who are left will be held till Diwali.

Tope went on to elucidate that the challenge they now face is to vaccinate college students and thus, appealed to them to get vaccinated. Considering that colleges in the state are reopening from October 20, the authorities had advised that students be fully vaccinated to be able to attend in-person classes. In addition to this, he also spoke about how big an achievement it is that Mumbai did not report any coronavirus fatalities on Sunday for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic
