On Monday, October 18, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar warned that the threat of the third wave of COVID-19 is not yet over. She further added that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is ready to vaccinate children. However, they are still waiting for the guidelines from the Central government.

The city on Sunday, October 17, saw no deaths due to COVID-19 for the first time since March 2020. While addressing to the media persons, she said there is still a threat of the third wave of COVID-19. We need to follow the COVID-19 guidelines as Mumbai is heading towards festivals like Diwali, she added.

Talking about the vaccination drive for children, she said that they would start the drive after receiving the guidelines from the central government.

Recently, the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) of the drug regulator had recommended granting an emergency use authorization for Bharat Biotech's Covaxin for children aged between 2-18.

On the other hand, BMC has said that they are ready to inoculate children in the age group of 12-17 years. Meanwhile, colleges are set to resume their physical classes from tomorrow, October 20, and Mumbai University (MU) has issued SOPs for colleges affiliated with them.
