Since last year, all the festivities are being celebrated in a simple manner due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the Holi celebrations this year are banned as Maharashtra has witnessed a sharp spurt in the cases in the last few weeks.

The Palghar district administration has banned Holi celebrations in public places, hotels and resorts.

The festival is will be celebrated between March 28 (Holika Dahan) and March 29 (Holi) this year. Public places like beaches and roads are crowded during the celebrations every year. Hotels and resorts are also booked for private parties during Holi.

According to officials, those violating the orders will be booked under the Disaster Management Act, Maharashtra COVID-19 Regulations and section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC.

Moreover, due to the rise in the cases in the district, including rural areas, student hostels in the district have been shut from March 22, due to the spread of the virus among students.

On Monday, March 22, coronavirus cases in the district stood at 47,666 with 1,159 active cases.

Meanwhile, the state government has already issued COVID-related guidelines in two tranches in a week. It capped the number of people to half in cinemas, restaurants, auditoriums and private offices, apart from banning social, political and religious gatherings. The state government had also capped the number of people to 50 for weddings and 20 for funerals.
