As Navratri, Dussehra, and Chhath Puja are already around the corner, this year the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is gearing up for the festivals in the city. 

The civic body issued a circular on October 11, for the same mentioning that all the facilities will be provided during Navratri and Chhath Puja. 

This development came following a meeting at the BMC headquarters in Mumbai between Mangal Prabhat Lodha, a Maharashtra Minister who also serves as the Suburban Guardian Minister for Mumbai, BJP President MLA Ashish Shelar, Navratri Utsav Mandals, and Chhath Puja Organizers.

There are 1,200 Navratri Utsav Mandals, and Chhat Puja is conducted at more than 82 venues throughout the city, according to official data.

Navratri:

Starting on October 15 and concluding with Vijaya Dashami on October 24, the Navratri festival will be celebrated.

The civic body has said that it would give only a single window for permissions to Navratri mandals. 

During a discussion held at BMC headquarters, the officials assured that there will be security to stop theft and break-ins along with that police will be patrolling in the areas where garbas are taken place on a larger scale.

Moreover, to protect women, the Nirbhaya squad would be dispatched.

BMC also stated that they make artificial ponds for idol immersion and will make sure the ponds are well-equipped. The circular read, “The BMC will implement a single window system for giving permission for the Navratrotsav mandals, set up artificial ponds for the immersion of idols of Maa Durga, provide lighting and other necessary arrangements at the immersion points."

Navratri mandals organizing the festival in different localities across Mumbai, for non-commercial Navratri Utsav Mandals in the city, Mangal Prabhat Lodha asked BMC to waive the fees and fire-safety charges. These mandals are expected to pay only INR 100 as deposit fees this year.

These facilities for Navratri will be made available from 15 October.

Chhath Puja:

Mumbai has many Chhath Puja venues, and the local government will make sure that they are clean and have other amenities.

The civic body also stated that it will ensure there is cleanliness and all the facilities are available at Chhath Puja sites in Mumbai.

The circular stated that in addition to medical amenities and ambulances, the BMC would also provide changing rooms at the puja locations. Officials from the Mumbai Police, the City Traffic Police, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), and other relevant departments were present at the meeting in addition to civic representatives.
