IMD has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai till Saturday. However, the neighbouring areas of Thane and Palghar have also been issued a yellow alert but till Friday. There is an orange alert issued for Saturday for Thane and Palghar.

In the old normal, heavy rainfall would have created ripples during the time of Ganesh Chaturthi. However, this year with several organizers cutting short the festivities in view of the pandemic, the idols are anyway supposed to be hosted at one's houses for a day and a half.

Therefore, the rain forecast has been causing no anxiety in the minds of the citizens as pandal darshan has been limited, with the idols being barely 2-3 feet tall. Moreover, these idols are to be immersed in the artificial ponds nearby or are to be handed over to the BMC for the conventional immersion.

Meanwhile, devotees have started registering for Ganesh Visarjan on the municipality's website shreeganeshvisarjan.com. So far two thousand devotees have registered and the majority of the devotees have registered for immersion of Ganesha at Girgaum Chowpatty. This is likely to cause congestion in the area.

However, Mumbaikars should still prepare themselves for heavy rain at isolated places in the city till Saturday. Moreover, heavy to very heavy rainfall can be witnessed in Thane and Palghar on Saturday.
