With the advent of the pandemic, several restrictions have been imposed in Mumbai when it comes to celebrating the 10-day Ganeshotsav.

The BMC has banned the direct immersion of the Ganesh idol in the city. This decision was taken to avoid crowds and prevent further congestion.

In order to immerse an idol, collection centres have been initiated at various places. The idol will be deposited in these collection centres for immersion. I S Chahal, BMC Commissioner, has further directed the Assistant Commissioners to set up immersion idol collection centres in all the departments.

Moreover, other options have also been suggested by the civic body. In case someone wants to immerse the idols outside the house in the traditional way, the idols should be submitted to the Municipal Corporation directly.

If the above option is not acceptable, then the immersion must be done at home. The BMC has also appealed to bring the idol in advance in order to avoid overcrowding or large processions.

Meanwhile, devotees have started registering for Ganesh Visarjan on the municipality's website shreeganeshvisarjan.com. So far two thousand devotees have registered and the majority of the devotees have registered for immersion of Ganesha at Girgaum Chowpatty. This is likely to cause congestion in the area.
