Mumbai City FC opened their Hero Indian Super League Season 4 campaign with a 2-0 loss against debutants Bengaluru FC at Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru on Sunday night.

The Islanders (as our home team is referred to now) conceded goals from Spanish winger Eduardo Garcia and former Mumbai City FC forward and current Bengaluru FC skipper Sunil Chhetri.

The home side dominated possession right from the start but despite being the superior side in the first half, The Blues struggled to find clear openings. Udanta Singh was too fast on the right-wing for Mumbai defenders to handle but poor finishing let Mumbai stay in the game.

Mumbai City FC were well organised at the back but the real problem was going forward as not many chances were created and the visitors missed striker Balwant Singh.

Everyone did their best for him to be there. He (Balwant Singh) is not yet 100 per cent. So it is better in his case to have him completely saved for the next game. We have four days to make rehab and lets see if they are available for the next match."

Guimaraes shared an update on Balwant Singh's return.

The Islanders’ lone striker Everton Santos didn’t really have a solid impact on the game and the midfield can be partially held responsible for this. Sahil Tavora and Sanju Pradhan failed in creating any real chances while Emana Achille, who came on for Leo Costa after the Brazilian pulled his hamstring, couldn't really pull strings in the visitors' favour.

Mumbai next play FC Goa on November 25 at home and they will definitely look to bounce back from the defeat.
