On Wednesday, August 13, the Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Mumbai City FC's junior squad locked horns with Bank of Baroda in the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) Independence Cup. The competition is a Round-of- 16 knockout tournament with 9-a-side squads competing for the cup.

Despite their best attempts, the Junior Islanders were bested by the Bank of Baroda boys as the latter scored two goals in the second half to seal the deal. The match was a 40-minute long encounter with both the halves divided in 20-minutes.
The Junior Islanders were outplayed after being outnumbered as two players were sent off by the referee during the match. With this, the Junior Islanders have been knocked out of the MDFA Independence Cup.
