In a move set to bolster their defensive lineup, Mumbai City FC has officially extended the contract of Hmingthanmawia Ralte, popularly known as Valpuia, until 2027. Valpuia, a native of Mizoram, has been an indispensable figure since joining Mumbai City FC in 2019, contributing significantly to their recent successes in the Indian Super League (ISL).
Valpuia's football journey began at a young age, starting his development at Aizawl FC before catching the attention of Mumbai City FC scouts, who secured his services in June 2019. His tenure at the club has been marked by consistent growth and pivotal performances, notably during the historic 2020-21 season when Mumbai City FC clinched both the ISL League Winners’ Shield and the ISL Cup under his defensive prowess.
Return to Mumbai City FC
During the 2022-23 season, Valpuia gained valuable experience on loan with Roundglass Punjab (now Punjab FC), where he played a crucial role in the team's promotion to the ISL. His stellar performances during this period highlighted his versatility and strategic importance, prompting Mumbai City FC to integrate him back into their squad upon his return. Under the guidance of Coach Petr Kratky, Valpuia flourished further, solidifying his place as a key player in the team's defensive setup.
