India started the FIFA U-17 World Cup campaign with a 0-3 defeat to the USA at Jawaharlal Stadium, New Delhi.

USA dominated possession in the first half and opened the scoring from the spot when a penalty was awarded to USA. Jintendra Singh was harshly penalized.

A harsh decision cost India a penalty as USA forward and captain Josh Sargent scored from the spot.

Goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh was phenomenal throughout the game as he was the one keeping India in the game. Winger Komal Thatal gave the USA defenders some problem running down the flanks but India could never capitalise.

In the second half, India pushed and tried to get back in the game before Chris Durkin scored a left-footed deflected goal to make it 0-2.

India kept pushing but couldn’t capitalise on the attacking play. India hit the crossbar before Andrew Carelton scored on the counter and killed the game at 0-3.
