According to reports, almost four people who have been infected with influenza H1N1 (swine flu) are on life support in Mumbai. In light of this, medical experts claim that the viral infection is back in circulation and that those who have tested negative for COVID-19 should get themselves tested for H1N1.

Based on accounts, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday, July 19 stated that 11 confirmed cases of influenza H1N1 have been reported in July. This is up from the two seen in June.

Similar to coronavirus, H1N1 is a respiratory disease that commenced as a global pandemic in 2019. However, soon after it became endemic.

It has been reported that at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra, two patients under the age of 50 are on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation therapy. This is considered the last resort and given when ventilatory support has failed. The same hospital reportedly has five other patients admitted to wards with swine flu.

Narratives suggest that last week, Maharashtra confirmed its first H1N1, 2022 fatality. Herein a girl (9) from Palghar's Talasari succumbed on July 10. In Mumbai, on the other hand, no confirmed swine flu death has been registered in the last three years. Nonetheless, there were 44 cases and 64 cases in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
