The Maharashtra government is working on a war footing to attain the 100 per cent first dose of COVID-19 vaccine target by the year-end. According to reports, nearly 15 million individuals in the state are yet to take even the first jab, whilst the full vaccination number has reached the 48 per cent mark. This is below the country's average of 50 per cent.

Based on accounts, Maharashtra's target adult population is 91.5 million and by Tuesday evening, December 7, it had administered over 120 million doses. This means over 76 million individuals had received at least the first jab and 43 million had attained both jabs, stated the CoWin dashboard.

Additionally, with the fear of the new Omicron variant, experts have been stressing the need for vaccination. Several medical experts have warned that a large number of uninoculated individuals can be a pool for the virus as well as its transmissions, highlighted narratives.

All districts in the state, except three- Nandurbar, Nanded and Beed, have attained their first dose target of over 70 per cent. It is believed by many that owing to the threat of the new variant, vaccination numbers in the state have risen.

In order for Maharashtra to attain its year-end target, it will have to administer 625,000 first jabs, every day till December 31, mentioned reports.
