Amid a sudden spike in the coronavirus cases, two deaths were recently reported at Mumbai’s King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital.
A 54-year-old woman with cancer and a 14-year-old girl with kidney disease died at a state-run hospital in Parel. Both tested positive for Covid-19 posthumously. However, doctors clarified that these deaths at were not caused due to Covid-19.
KEM Hospital authorities said the minor paediatric patient had nephrotic syndrome and died due to kidney failure. On the other hand, the cancer patient died of sepsis.
KEM Hospital has reported 15 Covid-19 cases over the past two months. All of them were mild and flu-like.
All the patients recovered without complications. It is only in patients with comorbidities that Covid-19 can become serious, but even that has become rare.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has clarified that May has seen more coronavirus patients than the previous months.
According to the BMC, 20 (MICU) beds have been reserved at Seven Hills hospital while 20 beds have been reserved for children and pregnant women each. At Kasturba hospital, meanwhile, two ICU beds and 10-beds in the ward have been earmarked for the treatment and guidance of Covid patients.
