As per the estimations by public health officials, only 20,000 disabled people are vaccinated in Maharashtra so far. The Centre has directed the states to carry out home vaccination for citizens who are unable to reach the vaccination centres.

The district health officials are directed by the state health officials to carry out vaccination drives after collecting the data from the state disability commissioner officer. Last week, the Union government had made an announcement to carry out a vaccination drive at home for disabled people, the elderly, and people with special needs.

Reportedly, there were guidelines issued earlier for arranging vaccination centres that are nearest to the disabled and elderly people, titled as Near-to-Home Covid Vaccination Centres (NHCVC). However, as per reports, some directives have stated that the COVID-19 vaccine will now be provided at the doorsteps of beneficiaries with special needs.

While talking to the Times of India, public health officials have said that nearly 22,901 disabled people are vaccinated so far; however, the numbers can be higher. The officials further said that the CoWin app, which is used to book a slot for vaccination, does not have a separate category. Therefore, the numbers have to be coordinated with the disability commissioner's office.

Rafiq Khan, who is an activist working for the disabled sector has told TOI that since there are no proper numbers, the coverage can only be estimated.
